Emily Wagenknecht is an environmental researcher, educator, and artist based in Portland, Oregon & New York City. She received her Master’s from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program, prior to which she studied Environmental Science at the University of Oregon, the University of Otago, New Zealand, the National Outdoor Leadership School, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Her research at NYU was focused on the environmental and humanitarian impacts of technology, Rare Earth Minerals, Conflict Minerals, and reevaluating technology as a tool for healing. She has worked as both a guest artist and consultant for The Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue, Swale (Floating Food Farm), ARCHELON the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece, Open Source Hardware Conference, White Lotus Gallery, the New York Academy of Science, The High School for Environmental Studies, ETH NYC, and was a recognized for her work on the environmental sourcing of iPhones by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. She believes strongly in the power of music, dance, puppies and rainbows, and is currently researching how to incorporate these powers to address more complex environmental and technological challenges.
